life // photography // storm

The wind picks up, the trees blow- their leaves shake so much it seems as if they'll fall off.
The air gets cooler, the sky gray. The wind whips your hair and you hear a rumble in the distance.
The wind stops blowing as quickly as it started. The sky- still gray, shows signs of light, the wind slows down.
For a second, all is still.

And then the sky lights up, the wind picks up the trees shake their branches.
An exhilarating feeling starts at your toes and goes all the way to the roots of your hair.
A storm is brewing.
Another crack of thunder, seconds later, a flash of light. The wind whips things down as it blows. The leaves shake. Your hair whips into your face. Another crack of thunder, more lighting.
A storm is brewing.

That feeling is very mysterious. You don't know what is going to happen. It could just refresh the earth, or, it could knock houses down and destroy everything in its path.
It could be a little rainstorm, it could be a disastrous hurricane, or tornado, take your pick.
The only thing you can do is trust Him who is making it happen.
God knows what's going to happen. He knows what's going to happen to you.
Put your trust in Him, and you won't need to worry. He has a special plan for you only. No one else's is exactly the same.
It's His plan for you.

That feeling right before a storm starts...
It's exhilarating, mysterious, exciting, adventurous.

A storm is brewing.

ps- it took me over 200 pictures to get those rain droplet shots. I edited them, obviously, but I am going to enter at least on in my state's State Fair. Which do you like better? Any favorite pictures?

life // design // photography // this is it

She was scared.
She laid next to me and put her head next to mine.
It was a perfect, beautiful moment. She trusts me. I could tell in that small space of time- that moment. I was protecting her from something she was scared of. She loves, and trusts me.

It hit me like a wave. I wasn't expecting it. It was amazing. It was perfect. Shocking. I seriously felt like I was hit by something. It was inspiring. It was beautiful.

These are the types of things I want to blog about. These small perfect moments in my life. The things that make me stop and think. The things that inspire me.
That moment was special to me. I don't want to forget it. I want to hold onto it for the rest of my life. But I can't. I want to remember that feeling.
But, If I try to explain it, it makes it easier to remember. Never exactly the same, but you shouldn't want to get the same thing over and over again. Can you say boring? I want it to be different each time.
Different, but beautiful.

And so, these small, lovely moments are things I want to blog about.
Maybe not all I want to blog about. Because they don't happen all the time. But some of what I blog about.

And that would be lovely.

ps- what do you think of the new design? I'm really in love with this color of blue...

May 17, 2012

I want to start out this post by saying something.
I know, lots, and lots of people are doing this.
And I know most of them are 'popular bloggers'.
And that's not why I'm doing it.
They got me thinking, and now I'm doing something about it. I've thought about it for a couple weeks, and that's why I've not been posting much.

I'm doing it because I want to be me.

Lots of times when I'm making a post, I end up changing almost all of it because it must sound stupid or boring. Maybe even cheesy.
But, I  realized, that's me.
I'm not perfect. I'm me.

And so, I want to reflect me in my posts.
It IS my blog after all...

So, starting now, I am going to try to find out who I am in this world of blogging.
And I want to incorporate blogging into my life (I got this idea from Kimberly, thanks!) not blogging around my life.
Some things I've always wanted to do are:
I've ALWAYS loved tutorials, and I have made some cute things in my life. I love crafting... And I want to do some of this.
I've also been thinking about schedule. I want to post on a more regular basis.

And, so. I would love encouragement from my dear followers.
Have you seen anything on this blog that you just know is me? Please let me know, I would seriously love it if you told me.

Thank you for reading this post, and for sticking with me through this.

a {random} app review (1)

I will be reviewing random apps. Each time I do one of these posts I will be reviewing one app.

The app we will be reviewing today is...

The story of the game:
Temple Run centers around a group of wandering explorers, where one of the characters, whom the player controls, steal an idol from an ancient temple. The players control the characters moments after they have stolen the idol. Immediately upon acquiring the idol, the player is pursued by a group of malignant demonic monkeys who chase the player out of the temple, thus initiating a "temple run."

The scenery is nice, it's kind of pretty and looks somewhat realistic.

The goal of the game is to not die, and collect coins so you can buy upgrades from the store.

This is what the start of the game looks like. Those are the demonic monkeys.

You try to get as many coins as you can.

There are obstacles. Like you need to swipe the screen to jump over the ditches. (or you die)

You can also buy power ups with the coins you collect. They will appear in the game and give you advantages.

If you trip over something, or not turn at the corners at the right time, the demonic monkeys will get closer to you. Eventually you will get ahead again.

Another obstacle.

The game never ends, and as you progress there become more obstacles you need to overcome, you also go faster.

The graphics are pretty good. And the app doesn't crash very often. (at least, not for me)
One thing, this app can become quite addicting.

I hope you liked the review, let me know if you want me to do more.
(all pictures are my screen shots.)

Life // on siblings.

Do you have siblings?
I do. I have 8 total.
It's a big number of siblings, and it gets very hectic and crazy at times...
But, despite all of this, I am very thankful for them.
I can only imagine what my life would be like without one of them. It wouldn't be the same at all.
And now, my oldest sibling (23) is graduating college, and he's going to get a job. So all those vacations we take may not include him. Or at least some of them.
And it won't be the same.

I mean, it's a tradition with us to always go with family. And now its going to be completely screwed up. Just because one of us had to 'grow up' and get a full time job.
And the thing is, it's not going to go back to normal. To how it was.
It's always going to be like this.
And, not only that, but eventually the rest of my older siblings will be doing the same thing. And then me.
By that time things will be so changed, it's should be depressing.
Only if we decide not to make new traditions. New memories. Because if we do make new memories, we can remember the old ones, too. And as long as we live, we can always remember these memories, and then we won't have to dwell on changing times.
We still have love, and we still have each other.
Distance may be a problem, but there are still many ways we can reach each other.

this is too cute!

So, don't dwell on the sad past.
Dwell on the memories, and on the future. All the things that will go right.
And enjoy the life that God gave you.
Because you only have one to live.

ps- I got two more etsy orders! Brings the grand total to 3! Thank you!

4:33 (around that time) pm
We waited for my mom to bring the van around while I was in the wheelchair.
I got in the back seat of the car, and we said goodbye.
We drove to Target (my mom was going to get some juice and Popsicles and my prescription and stuff.) and I stayed in the car while my mom went in.
About 5 minutes later my mom came back and said that the prescription would take half an hour.
I told her to just get it, and I'd wait here.
about twenty minutes later my throat hurt REALLY bad. It was very painful.
My mom finally came out to the van, and I told her it really hurt. She suggested I take the medicine in the car, but I didn't want to do that. I mean, we didn't have any cups (so I wouldn't be able to take the medicine with anything- like the nurse told us to) except for the cup my popsicle was in, and that had a melted popsicle in it.
We drove home, and I went straight for the couch. Everyone asked how I was, but I didn't want to talk.
My Opa (Grandpa) came in with my brother (they were golfing) and he sat down next to me for a little while. I could tell he understood that it hurt to talk, so he didn't really say anything.
A little later I decide to get up and walk around. Outside. I needed some fresh air.
I walk around, my sister, Julia, and her friend, Mallory ask how I am doing, I say 'okay... kind of'.
Then, realizing I over-did it, I go lay on the couch. I feel like i'm going to puke. It must have been the anesthesia.
maybe half an hour later, Julia and Mallory come to the door and say they have something for me.
Now, I'm still feeling icky from walking around, but I don't want to disappoint them.
I walk to the door, and they each give me a card.
the one on the left is from Mallory, the one on the right is from Julia.
Then they told me to open them. I'm thinking 'sit down, Rachel, sit down.' But, I ignore my thought and open them up. They were so cute.
But I needed to lay down.
I thanked them, and as soon as I could I went to lay down.

Thursday, May 3rd 2012
I had to get up at 2:30 am to take medicine- not fun!
Then my mom woke me up at seven to take medicine. So, unnaturally, I got up anyway.
I lay around for most of the day.
My Oma and Opa called and asked how I was doing. We chatted for a bit, and then eventually said goodbye.
Later, my other Grandma called me, again we chatted for a bit, and right in the middle of that chat the doorbell rang.
My mom opened it, and they were talking to- well, I actually have no idea. But anywho, I heard them saying 'she can't come to the door right now.'
Well, then Julia and David (my youngest brother and second youngest sister) bring me a vase with flowers in it.
To say the least, I was shocked.
I mean, I know I went through surgery, but it wasn't really a big surgery. Its actually a very common one.
So, I really wasn't expecting this.
They were from relatives.
and they are so.pretty.
Here are pictures:
the note that came with it minus who it was from. hehe
aren't they just GORGEOUS!?

and this vase? love it!
I took individual pictures of each kind of flower. :)
really like this picture.

Every flower boquet I got had at least one carnation in it. I love carnations. <3

Oh! So pretty!

I really like these lilies. <3

and you can tell I do, because of all the pictures of them. ;)

tulips are soo photogenic.

these, on the other hand, are not.

the whole thing.

one of my favorites <3

me smelling the flowers. (I just had taken a shower, so that explains the wet hair.

Okay, that was a lot of pictures, but, there're more, so, yeah.

back to the story...

Later on in the day, my sister came back from a Good News Club (I couldn't help that day, obviously, but I usually do) and she gave me a present, and a letter.
The letter was from a dear friend.

And the present was from another very dear friend (some of you may know of her as I have done some blog designs for her)

In it:

This candle. It smells so.delicious. Plus, just the other day I had been wanting to have a candle.

Sweet Pea! One of my favorites!

And these adorable pens! They're perfect!

Just a photography thing. ;)

I adore these pens. <3

Lindor truffles!? How did you know that these were just about my biggest weakness. I eat too many- they are way too delicious. <3

And they're milk chocolate- my favorite! (if you haven't tried them yet, you should. They are the best chocolate, along with Seroogy's )

and this beautiful journal. I love it. It's so pretty! And the quote/verse is lovely. <3
Thank you SO much, Hannah. It means so much to me. :]

pretty tissue paper.

This is a note from the hospital staff who took care of me. Apparently I was a good patient. XD
And if I haven't already mentioned this (which I probably have) When the nurse was putting the IV in me, she said I did very well. Better than most people. especially those people who are big, and have huge muscles... tattoos. Those people.

Back to the story...
Later that day, another doorbell rand (well, the same one...)
It was...
More flowers!
I'm serious.
This is the card. (it was from relatives)

The card ^ is cute!
And the flowers? SO PRETTY! Just LOOK at that rose!

More carnations! white ones- super pretty!

The vase (it was REALLY hard to get a picture of. :P

Doesn't it look like a cupcake?

My sister, Julia, picked and gave these flowers to me. She's so sweet.

As of Friday, I was feeling somewhat better, and today, well, the morning wasn't so good, but right now I am feeling pretty good.
I just want to give everyone who prayed for me and thought of me during this. It means so much to me.
Thank you.

Rachel Nicole
